Shiloh Slideshow

Shiloh Industries used an animated slideshow for all of their trade shows, and when the show approached, they realized that the photos were all out of date. It showed older models of cars that they worked on, and photos of their old facilities. With the deadline quickly approaching, I was able to put together a smooth animated slideshow using more appropriate pictures that will last for a few years to come.

Quell: 20 Acts of Kindness

20 Acts of Kindness was an initiative by The Quell Group to give back to the community in celebration of their 20th anniversary. I was asked to create a video to describe how it works, without using any video or sound clips, and very limited graphical assets, and no budget for stock clips or music.

I was able to animate the dandelion logo, and find some royalty-free music to match the feel of the video.

Chem-Trend: Die Lube Animation

The Leidenfrost effect is a very complicated scientific phenomenon in which water droplets explode and evaporate before they reach a superheated surface. After a few calls with an engineer, I was able to illustrate this term as accurately as possible, down to the way the droplets boil, and the way they conserve volume while wetting and spreading. There are also animated graphs and charts, which were carefully designed to take up enough time for translated voice overs.

Here is an edited version of the original video, which was over a minute long. I removed the audio, because the voice over track was distracting when it keeps cutting.

Chase Plastics: Trade Show Slideshow

Chase Plastics is very active in trade shows, and they wanted a video that could loop continuously in their booth to draw interest. I wanted it to be a little more flashy, but I had a lot of copy to work with, so I had to make some design compromises to fit it all in.

Chase has an angled corner cut as a branding element, so I took that to a logical extreme and had the screen cut almost in half. It helps it stand out from a distance in a crowded trade show, and the angle of the cut points to the Chase booth.

Animation Reel

This is a short demo reel of some of the animation I have done in my decade or more of experience. It consists of some frame-by-frame hand drawn animation and computer-assisted animation, as well as a little bit of 3D work.

ZMAG iPad Demo

This project was created to explain the functionality of a new advertising method being used by The Detroit News and The Detroit Free Press. It’s a way to embed a sales brochure or mini-magazine into an ad on the newspaper apps. Potential customers were having trouble understanding how it would work, so I took screenshots and did some screen recording to mockup up what the process of using this advertising brochure would look like. I created a hand graphic that taps through the app, and meticulously added in the other ad sizes and animations that would be present in the real app.

Michigan Media Solutions: ‘Sizzle’ Video

The President of Gannett’s Detroit operations (Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, etc.) presented this video at a trade show on stage in front of hundreds of people. It launched a new company, called Michigan Media Solutions.

The purpose of the video was to hype up Detroit as a place for investing advertising dollars, and directing the viewers toward MMS as company who could run the ads. It was very well accepted at that show.

Achates Power: Interview Series

Achates Power wanted a unique way to describe their new engine technology, and my colleagues and I eventually delivered a video brochure. It’s a brochure with a screen and buttons embedded into one of the pages. My role was to create the graphics, animation, and pop-up boxes on screen to help cover up editing issues and to supplement the voice over.

I have edited a few clips from the videos to highlight the graphics work. Please keep in mind that due to the small format of the video brochure, the final video is not in HD.
