Ask the DietitianStephanie Vella, RD Q: Why is protein important for exercise? A: Protein is critical for building muscle mass; however, just eating protein won’t get you toned. Muscle growth and repair requires the proper combination of exercise and diet. Even timing plays a role in maximizing protein’s health benefits. Researchers encourage eating a high-quality protein (such as eggs, dairy or soy) plus a complex carbohydrate within 15 minutes of exercising to build strong muscles. A hard-boiled egg and banana is the perfect recovery snack combo after a workout. Call us at (248) 267-5600 to schedule a one-on-one session with a registered dietitian. Fitness Tip: Improve Posture, Prevent InjuryNeil Zebelian, Fitness Coach Having a strong chest improves posture and prevents shoulder injuries related to strenuous activity, such as yard work and sports. Doing a simple chest press with dumbbells on a stability ball is an excellent exercise. Not only will it give you greater range of motion, it will also work your chest, shoulders, triceps and core simultaneously. With a stronger chest, you’ll be able to push and lift objects with less effort and better your athletic performance. Watch a demo video here.
